Exports from Italy grows by 3.7% in 2015

According to the Italian Statistical Office (ISTAT), the exports from Italy in 2015 has grown by 3.7% compared to 2014. This increase was equally divided between EU markets (3.8%) and other international markets (3.6%).

Imports to Italy from the rest of the world also has increased by 3.3% compared to 2014. Actually, the balance of trade closed 2015 posting a surplus of 45.2 billion euros (also due to the low oil prices, of which Italy is a net importer), from 41.9 billion euros in 2014.

The most dynamic export markets for Italy were US (+20.2%), Belgium (+10.6%), India (+10.3%) and Spain (+10.1%). In contrast, exports to traditional markets like Germany (+1.7%) and France (+1.2%), were sluggish.

From a sectorial point of view, in 2015 Italy mostly exported automotive products (+30.8% compared to 2014), agro-food (+11.2%) and computer and electronic appliances (+10.9%). Less brilliant was the performance of machinery (+2.2%), textiles (+1.2%), fashion and wear (+0.9%).
