8% of the energy produced in Italy comes from the sun
The International Energy Agency (IEA), Energy Organization of the European Organization for Cooperation and Development (OECD) reported that 8% of the energy produced in Italy in 2015 came from solar power, compared to 7,4% in Greece, 7,1% in Germany and 4% in Japan.
This success is part of Italy’s greater achievement in 2014 when 42% of national energy needs were obtained through renewable energy sources (Hydroelectric, Solar, Wind).
It is true that Italy’s predominance in Solar power production is connected to lower consumption and the economic crisis in general, and that the percentage is likely to drop in next few years due to the Government’s cuts to solar subsidies, but still it is an indicator of the Italian capacity of putting itself in the right path towards Paris goals.
