PM Hariri discusses sports initiatives with UIM president Raffaele Chiulli
Prime Minister Saad Hariri held meetings during which he discussed a new academy for watersports training and a Formula 2 World Championships planned for 2018 in Lebanon.
A statement from Hariri’s press office noted that Hariri had discussed these initiatives with International Union of Powerboating President Raffaele Chiulli, President of the Lebanese Union of Powerboating Edmond Chagoury and Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Massimo Marotti.
Following the meeting, Chuilli said, “We agreed that sport is an excellent way to break down barriers and promote good practices in society and the world of sport."
Chuilla said that Beirut could look forward to establishing an academy to train new generations of athletes. “We will start with speedboats and we will expand this academy to other water sports, as well as organizing a world event ... [for] Formula 2."
Formula 2 is a type of open wheel formula racing, one rung down from motorsports’ pinnacle, Formula 1.
Chagoury said that he had presented several important issues to Hariri, including the establishment of the Formula 2 World Championship in Lebanon.
